ACC 1sts’ slip allows Ilembe to score

On Saturday, 27 February at 1.30pm the team will take on a British Army Team in a T2O match at Toti Oval.

ALL of the weekend’s cricket games were called-off by the cricket union, due to the poor weather through the week which prevented proper preparation of the various grounds.

Only the first team managed to get a game, as they were able to play at the Toti Oval, where Amanzimtoti Cricket Club (ACC) oversees the maintenance of the ground. Rex arranged and supervised the cutting, marking and final preparation of the oval in readiness for the game.

ACC 1st team: On Sunday, 21 February, the ACC 1sts played against Ilembe at the Toti Oval.

Ilembe batted first and struggled to find runs with Toti’s bowlers bowling in the right areas on a slow and sticky wicket. After 26 overs ACC finally took its first wicket with their total on 79. The bowlers unfortunately contributed heavily to Ilembe’s score by bowling both sides of the wicket, despite a strong off side field setting. This allowed Ilembe’s batters to take twos and threes down towards fine leg almost every time the bowlers strayed onto the leg side. The wicket held no real demons and as it dried-out and the ball got softer, their run rate increased against an indifferent bowling attack. Ilembe finally reached 203 for six wickets in their 50 overs, with two of these wickets being run outs.

Jarryd and Desigan opened the ACC batting and were in cruise mode on 70 runs off 14 overs when Jarryd was caught and bowled for 18. Up to that point Jarryd was playing the anchor roll while Desigan had hit a rapid 50 off 33 balls. Robin and James both battled to give Desigan the strike. Desigan became the 4th wicket down with his score on 63, but the total had only progressed to 90 in 27 overs. At that point all thoughts of still chasing the bonus point in 40 overs went out the window; but ACC was still on course for a win, or so they thought. Most of the batters made ordinary bowling look unplayable and in the course of the next 16 overs, managed to get themselves all out for the addition of only 46 runs.

The good thing about this team is that they know that they have had a poor game. They will pick themselves up, dust themselves down and come roaring back next week.
