THE round-robin stage of the Port Natal trips was played last weekend, and although many Amanzimtoti Bowling Club members entered, only three have gone through to the next stage.

They are Barbara Beamson, Jeanne Alexander and Nita Meumann; Jenny Delport, Denise Bingham and Val de Kok; and Elsie Walker, Amanda Ninow and Tokkie de Kock.

Well done to them and to all teams who had good games, but didn’t quite make ‘the cut’.

After the 5th round of the Hypersure mixed trips at the club, only one team remains unbeaten – that of Barbara Beamson, Marion Crouch and Mike Pitchers, holding 10 points with a shot difference of 35. Doreen Salmond with Doug and Lynn Joubert have now moved up from 3rd to 2nd place, with 8 + 26, and in 3rd place on 8 + 21 are Mike Groom, Jeanne Alexander and Neville Roscoe.

The leaders in plate B are Peter Callaghan, Ian Mills and Michelle Pitchers, and in 2nd place, Tony Cam with Al and Linda McGregor. Colin Coetzee was delighted to win the chocolate draw after the game. Good luck to all for the final game on Friday, 26 February.

In the first round of the women’s drawn pairs, Pam Chalder-Royle and Lesley Stephens-Viviers won a very close game on the last end, against Lynn Joubert and Tokkie de Kock. Amanda Ninow and Gaynor Snyman lost to Marion Crouch and Marie van der Walt. In nominated mixed pairs Ian and Leonie Mills came from behind on the 17th end to defeat Barbara Beamson and Mike Roberts.

In men’s drawn pairs, Dallas Davis and Barry Bush lost to Vince Phaal and Greg Veldtman, despite being the leaders until the 17th end. Clive Frank and Boet Els lost to Tony Cam and Bill Williams; Adie Fuller and Jeff van Belkum lost to Doug Joubert and Martin Birch; Alf Bingham and Brian Cox beat Peter Labuschagne and Ben Venter; John Hewgill and Neville Roscoe lost to Greg McLeod and Martin Young; and Ian Shearer and Steve Evenwel lost to Ken Leech and Vish Studinski.

Note that the draw for the women’s open singles is on the board and the 1st round will be played this Saturday, 27 February, fisrt and second session.

Marion Crouch, Val de Kok and Leigh Callaghan won the women’s monthly trips with a 4+22. Barbara Beamson, Denise Bingham and Amanda Ninow were runners-up, and Yvonne Wright, Yvonne Hooper and Kathy Harding won 2nd session. Norma Raath won the 100 board, and Elmarie Young won the ‘spider’ which raised R110 for Hospice.

At TGIF Margaret van Belkum won the 100 board, but social member Willie Bezuidenhout was not present to get the attendance draw. This means the pot will rise to R600 next week. Jackie Holdrick’s number was drawn in the key draw, but Jeanne Alexander was unable to find the right key for her, so next time the amount will be a ‘must draw’ R10,000.

This month’s club member of the month for the removal of the concrete slab and old braai structure is Peter Callaghan. Many thanks to Pete and his workers for assisting with these improvements.

Happy birthday to Arthur Walker, Andrew Luck, Leon van Rensburg, and Brian Pascoe; and get well wishes to all who are not well at the moment, especially green-keeper Micky Roche, and Noreen Butler after their ops.

Finally, an early reminder that Barflies will be held on Sunday morning, 6 March for bowlers and non-bowlers interested in having a fun morning.
