#BringBackGav gains ground for Toti’s axed Voice contestant

The Toti local and front man for The Gus Brown Band clearly left an impression in the contest

The call to #BringBackGav has gone out from close on 300 people who used the hashtag to voice their support for Warner Beach muso, Gavin Welsh who was axed from The Voice SA’s debut show on DSTV’s channel 101 on Sunday night.

During this Blind Audition phase of the competition, which stretches over seven episodes, the four celebrity coaches sit with their backs to the stage in order to make decisions based on the performers’ vocal ability only.

They clearly misjudged things when they missed the opportunity to turn around and claim the talented Welsh for either of their four teams. Judges Lira and Kahn Morbee both expressed their disappointment at losing out, with Morbee being grilled on ECR on Friday about the decision.

The Toti local and front man for The Gus Brown Band clearly left an impression in the contest, as a broadcasted diary-style  posting by celebrity judge, Lira voiced her regret at having missed out on turning around for Welsh. Equally unimpressed were his legion of fans who took to comment on The Voice SA’s Facebook page, echoing the call to bring back the bearded man.

It’s clear that Toti and the rest of Welsh’s fans believe he deserves to return to the show, but it remains to be seen whether any of the judges will be able or choose to invoke their wildcard privilege to get him back in the mix.

We’re holding thumbs!
