Promenade lights repaired

I was worried they might injure someone walking on the promenade if the wires broke.

Unrepaired floodlamps on Toti promenade that posed a danger to passing walkers were repaired by the municipality on Tuesday night, 26 January.

The bracket holding the two massive lamps had rusted, leaving them hanging precariously by electrical wires only.

The pole is situated behind Strandburg flats. Manager, Pete Lessing had contacted eThekwini Municipality on three separate occasions, but only once the Sun informed it of the problem, was it rectified.

“I first reported it in November,” he said. “On 20 November I received a reference number, but nobody came out. When I reported it on 14 December I received a different reference number, but still nothing was done about it.” Pete tried again on 15 January, without luck.

“The lamps swung alarmingly when the wind blew,” he said. “Amazingly they still came on at night. I was worried they might injure someone walking on the promenade if the wires broke,” said Pete.

“All reported cases are being attended to and residents are urged to contact the number they had called to report the case and provide the call centre agent with their reference number, so that they can be given an update regarding the status of their complaint or query.

Customers are urged to report a fault or log a complaint once and thereafter use their allocated reference number to follow up on the progress of their enquiry,” said eThekwini head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa.

“Thanks to the municipality for the repair from Strandburg and other flats in the area,” said Pete.
