Robbers were also apprehended by the company's response officers in Prospecton.

The SAPS K9 unit arrested a burglar in Prospecton after alert private security guards spotted him entering a business premises on Monday afternoon, 25 January.

He attempted to steal cable, wall sockets and belt-driven inverters.

“Alpha Alarms response officers cordoned off the entrance and exits to the premises after the robber hid himself in a warehouse,” said communications officer, Krishnee Naidoo.

The K9 unit released a dog in the vicinity of the warehouse and within minutes the robber was sniffed out by the canine officer.

He was handed over to Isipingo SAPS members who were also on scene. A case has been opened and the robber has been detained.

In two separate, unrelated incidents robbers were apprehended by the company’s response officers in Prospecton on Friday, 22 January.

An armed whoonga-addicted thief was caught in the act of raiding a business premises in the morning after he was spotted loading stolen items into a bag at the rear of the property.

“Noticing he was being observed, he fled towards the canal. Members cordoned off the area and hemmed him in. He then pulled out what appeared to be a kitchen knife and lunged at the members, but they managed to restrain him.”

When questioned by the members, the robber confessed he had been stealing items to sell to scrap dealers for whoonga.

“We urge scrapyard dealers to be wary of purchasing stolen goods and business owners should conduct routine checks at the rear of their properties to ensure that all is in order,” said Krishnee.

Later that afternoon two scrap metal thieves were arrested after they were spotted by an Alpha Alarms security guard during his inspection of the property.

“The robbers fled when they saw the guard, but response officers blocked off all escape routes,” said Krishnee.

“Both robbers were caught fleeing in opposite directions. An inspection of the premises revealed that the robbers had stripped items like copper cables and inner parts of air-conditioner units, as well as other scrap metal items which they left behind when they fled.” The robbers were arrested by the Umlazi SAPS K9 unit and Isipingo SAPS.
