Pregnant woman thwarts hijack attempt

It is alleged the hijackers arrived in two vehicles

A pregnant Lotus Park resident and her unborn baby were fortunate to survive a hijacking attempt on Silvergull Drive on Wednesday morning, 20 January.

“It is alleged by the complainant that at about 6.25am she was seated in her vehicle when she was approached by two men at gunpoint,” said Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala of the SAPS KZN media centre.

“She put the vehicle in reverse and went over a sand bank, overturning the vehicle. The men fled scene.”

The woman was believed to have been trapped inside.

A response officer responded to the scene of the attempted hijacking. “Residents also rushed to the aid of the victim and she was transported to a medical facility for treatment,” said Alpha Alarms communications officer, Krishnee Naidoo.

“It is alleged the hijackers arrived in two vehicles, a greenish Peugeot 206 and a silver Polo.

Residents are urged to be on high alert following the escalating crime in the area. Be vigilant and report suspicious vehicles and persons immediately.”

A case of attempted hijacking was opened at Isipingo police for investigation and no arrests have been made.
