A MAN and a woman were arrested after being found in possession of 819 straws of heroin between them in Umkomaas on Saturday, 2 January.
“At about 1.40pm, Umzinto K9 unit members were patrolling when they followed-up on information about drugs in cottages at Umkomaas. They identified the cottages and searched a room. A 27-year-old woman was found in possession of 200 straws of heroin. She was also found in possession of R3,393 cash suspected to be the money she got through dealing in drugs,” said provincial police spokesman, Maj Thulani Zwane.
The woman was arrested and charged with possession of drugs. She is expected to appear in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court (today), Monday, 4 January.
“Members proceeded to another cottage in the same area where it was searched and 619 strews of heroin were found. A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs. He will also appear in the Scottsburgh Magistrate’s Court.”
KZN police commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni thanked members for a sterling job during the festive season.
‘I also thank members of the community who provided valuable information that led to the arrest and recovery of drugs. We will continue with our zero tolerance approach in getting rid of drugs in our province,’ she said.
