Civic body celebrates Warners community

Interested individuals, groups and organisations are urged to contact My Sapphire CommUnity.

AN inkling of an idea born almost a year ago has given rise to My Sapphire CommUnity (MSC), a community group focused on celebrating the magnificent Sapphire Coast.

Glynis Rathbone who spearheaded the formation of the new group in December 2014, said: “The power of a community to achieve positive change is immense. From a small nucleus of interested people who came to listen to a presentation about successes achieved by Warners Action Group (WAG) between 2000 and 2010, My Sapphire CommUnity has grown into an organisation with many supporters.”

Civic group hopeful of Warner Beach’s potential

“There are so many needs, so many challenges facing South Africa, that it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and to withdraw behind our locked doors and high fences. However, there is much that we as a community can do, by standing together shoulder to shoulder,”said Glynis.

Gaylene Allen who was elected as the chairman of MSC at a meeting on 28 October, said: ‘It is truly heartwarming to see how the community has responded to our message that we have much to celebrate. The monthly full moon beach walks, the inaugural My Sapphire CommUnity beach walk which will be held each Youth Day and the current project we are working on, the revamp of the pedestrian subway in Warner Beach have all been well supported by locals. We are grateful to each community member who has participated, volunteered their time, or sponsored our initiatives.”

“Of course there are numerous challenges, but there has been so much fun and laughter along the way too. We invite interested individuals, groups and organisations to contact MSC as we explore ideas and ways in which to celebrate our beautiful part of the world,” she said.
