Mamba women show their mettle at inaugural MTB challenge

All in all it was a wonderful weekend riding mountain bikes and socialising with fellow club members.

DURING the weekend, the Toti Cycling Club Mambas spent the weekend in Port Edward, staying at ‘The Pont’ on Friday and Saturday nights.

On Saturday morning a group of about 25 cyclists took part in the Wild Coast Sun MTB challenge over distances of 20km and 40km.

It was the inaugural event and although the route was rather rough and testing, the views made it all worthwhile.

Two of the club’s women cyclist, Caryn Harvey and Rienie Beneke, finished fifth and eighth respectively among all the women, and first and second in their age category.

On Saturday everyone got together to enjoy a relaxed evening braaiing and watching the rugby. On Sunday morning, the proposed ride at Clearwater trails was cancelled due to the weather and instead a relaxed breakfast was enjoyed there.

All in all it was a wonderful weekend riding mountain bikes and socialising with fellow club members.

Not to be left out, the roadies had two great rides over the weekend. On Saturday they rode to Scottburgh and back and then on Sunday morning, they rode an event that started at Blue Lagoon in Durban, out to Ballito and back.
