Workshops to give women cancer patients a lift

The Look Good Feel Better workshops hit Toti for the first time this month.

The Look Good Feel Better Foundation helps women facing the trauma and stress of cancer, assisting them to overcome the distressing appearance related to side effects of their treatment.

“The workshops are open to any woman currently in active treatment for cancer,” said team leader for Amanzimtoti, Merle Gabriel.

“It is a hands-on workshop, where women are taught how to make the best of their appearance. A woman undergoing cancer treatment can feel down, especially when she starts losing her hair.

If she looks good, she will feel better and she will be more positive.”

Not only will women be pampered at these workshops, but they also receive a gift pack of cosmetics.

Specially trained volunteer beauty professionals will guide them through a 12-step skincare and make-up regime, with each woman using her gift of products which she takes home to practise to make the best of her appearance.

These hands-on sessions provide women with the opportunity to forget about their illness and enjoy a time of pampering, fun and laughter. They meet and share with others going through a similar experience and, most importantly, look and feel fabulous when they leave the session.

The foundation hosts two workshops – on Monday, 26 October at Toti Oncology Centre in Athlone Park, and on Thursday, 5 November at Rainbow Oncology Centre, 315 Iphala Road. Both workshops start at 2pm.

To book your place at Toti Oncology Centre, call Sr Kamantha Moodley on 031-9041004 or 072-991-9437. To book at at the Rainbow Oncology Centre, call Caroline Smith on 082-451-6575.

“There is a huge demand for these workshops,” said Merle. “Next year we plan on hosting one every month.”
