Sand flies as lifesaving competition season starts

Remember "the finest thing that a man can do is to save the life of a fellow being".

LIFESAVING KZN South reports that the lifesaving competition season got underway on Sunday, 11 October at Umhlanga Surf Lifesaving Club.

This was the first of a three series competition leading up to the Lifesaving SA national senior and junior championships in 2016 to be held at Port Elizabeth.

Well done to Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club’s Demi Mason who claimed first spot in the women’s open beach flags and a second place in the beach sprint.

Top competitors will be in action at the three local clubs so make a note to see the athletes on the beaches. The KZN junior championships will be held at Winklespruit SLC on 31 January 2016, KZN South junior/senior champs is on 21 February at Warnadoone and KZN championships, and open (seniors) at Amanzimtoti SLC on 5 and 6 March 2016.

KZN nipper champs will be hosted by Marine Surf on Addington Beach from 6 to 7 February 2016.

The 2015/16 national nipper championship comes to Addington Beach from 31 March to 2 April 2016, where club and provincial team competitors between the ages of 9 and 14-years-old will compete in surf and beach events.

Parents are again reminded to take children under 14 years of age to the local clubs on Sundays to be part of the fun in the sun, to learn swimming and surf skills and compete in nipper events.

For the over 14-year-old youngster, local clubs train for the junior lifesavers award and over 16-year-olds can join in the training to receive the lifesaving award. Speak to your local club chairman or club captain to become part of the lifesaving community.

Remember “the finest thing that a man can do is to save the life of a fellow being”.
