Roadside N2 robbers netted

I urge people not to stop on the side of the road.

Drivers are warned not to stop on the side of the the N2 to buy goods.

This follows the investigation of two N2 robbers by ET Rapid Response last week.

“Our tactical response unit responded to a call of a robbery on the N2 southbound by the Umgababa offramp on Tuesday, 12 October,” said ET Rapid Response managing member, Tony Lokker.

“Our team, with assistance from Toti SAPS, helped a woman client of ours, who was assaulted and robbed on the offramp by three men. A search of the area yielded nothing, but we realised this was one of several robberies with the same modus operandi.”

When people stop to buy mushrooms or other produce on the side of the highway, the robbers would pounce and assault and rob them.

The following day members of Umkomaas SAPS and the tactical response unit followed up on information and arrested two men.

“The two admitted to the previous day’s robbery and took members deep into the sugarcane to point out where they had dumped our client’s belongings. After a long search, the client’s handbag was retrieved, but all cash and other items had been taken.”

The robbers were detained and charged at Umkomaas police station.

“I urge people not to stop on the side of the road to buy anything, as they are putting themselves at risk. These criminals will use all means to lure people, so they can prey on the victims,” warned Tony.
