Pesky hamerkop lines nest with stolen undies

If you live in Athlone Park and are missing some underwear, look up to spot the pesky pervert.

Little Road resident Yvonne Janssen warns that a hamerkop bird is stealing underwear in the suburb to build its nest.

When Yvonne and her husband went away for the long weekend, their housesitter complained about the amount of clothing being blown over the wall from the neighbour’s yard.

“On Tuesday I saw the hamerkop was building a big nest in a tree by our front gate and noticed baby clothes, bras and women’s lace underwear that had fallen out of it,” said a bemused Yvonne.

“Every morning I have collected what has fallen out the nest and washed it. We now have quite a collection.”

To date Yvonne has a pair of baby leggings, two small bras, men’s Jockey underwear and three pairs of lace panties.

“We found out the birds will take four to six weeks to complete the nest, so this will be going on for some time. Please do not accuse anyone in your household of stealing clothes. Inbox me on Facebook should you be missing items.”
