George deserves community hero award

The public support for George as he recovers in hospital from his serious injuries has been heart-warming to witness.

EDITOR – My hubby Alan and I are currently back in Warner Beach after living in Australia for several years. Like so many South Africans who have family scattered across the globe, we long to be with those we love. While our sons and other family are settled in Australia, my extended family is largely in South Africa. So for the foreseeable future, Alan and I plan to live and work in both South Africa and Australia, enjoying the experience of both countries.

We’re often asked “What’s it like in Aus?” We love being in Australia, and especially appreciate the freedom that comes without constantly having to be concerned about the threat of crime. But we love living in Warners too. This is the place where we have so many happy memories, where our roots are, where we know so many wonderful people.

It was a shock to learn last week about George Snodey’s terrible motor vehicle accident. This exceptional man has so often put his life on the line to keep us safe. He has volunteered countless hours, patrolling our streets and fighting crime. He was instrumental in establishing the CCPO and has contributed more than anyone I know to the success of this organisation.

I urge everyone to join the CCPO. This pro-active crime fighting force has done well since its inception under the leadership of its first chairman, George Lithgow, in 2007. It can do so much more and I look forward to seeing both Georges taking the CCPO to the next level in the future.

The public support for George as he recovers in hospital from his serious injuries has been heart-warming to witness. The sense of community in this beautiful part of the world is very special and one of the reasons we love living in Warners.

It would be fantastic to acknowledge George Snodey’s selfless contribution to keep us all safe over so many years. I’m proposing that we celebrate this good man with a special ceremony and award him the well-deserved title of Community Hero.

We’re in this together. Let’s make it happen. I love this slogan which belongs to My Sapphire CommUnity – see Facebook for more details.
