Enough is enough with taxi industry

The taxi industry as a whole needs to start acting responsibly.

EDITOR – With regards to the taxi strike currently underway in Durban this week, it is time that the taxi industry is brought to book for once and for all.

The owners and drivers think they are above the law and can do what they like, but they forget about the passengers who pay to put their lives in the hands of these irresponsible hooligans.

And for those of us fortunate enough not to have to use one of these death traps, we have to deal instead with their lawless behavior on the roads when we are in the traffic with them. Enough is enough.

Stop letting them dictate to the public who pay to use their services and to the authorities, who have a duty to enforce traffic and other laws. The taxi industry as a whole needs to start acting responsibly. They are not carrying cargo, they transport human lives – mothers, fathers and children – and therefore should constantly be monitored for proper permits, licenses and safety issues. How many more tragic statistics do we need because of these heartless greedy people? Stand up to them and put them in their place.
