AK47 seized from Umbumbulu home

Police have made an arrest.

GUNS were seized and a man arrested in Umbumbulu in a joint police operation held from Tuesday to Wednesday morning, 1 to 2 September.

“Margate crime intelligence, PSS K9 unit, Folweni SAPS and Cavendish police worked together to recover an AK47 rifle and two 9mm pistols at a house in Umbumbulu. A 37-year-old man was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” said provincial police spokesman, Col Jay Naicker.

Police searched the house after they received a tip-off about the illegal firearms.

The man is expected to appear in Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court soon. The recovered guns will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the country.
