The public will be informed when the situation is back to normal

UPDATETOTI Main Beach is still closed today (Wednesday, 2 September) following ongoing strike action by lifeguards and beach municipal workers.

Trash which was scattered around the beach area from overturned bins on Tuesday, 1 September was not removed by noon on Wednesday.

Ethekwini Municipality has issued a statement regarding the lifeguard and municipal workers strike.

“The city has been made aware of the lifeguard strike at Amanzimtoti beach.

The city is investigating the incident and management will be meeting with the relevant staff on Wednesday, 2 September. However, with regards to all labour-related issues, such matters are addressed internally with municipal employees as and when they arise and the municipality cannot discuss such information with a third party.

The public will be informed when the situation is back to normal,” said head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa.
