Six of the best to lace up for KZN cross country team

African Cross Country Championships, which will be held in Middleburg on the 12 September.

AFTER a successful final event in the 2015 KZNA cross-country league was hosted by Amanzimtoti Athletic Club on Saturday, 8 August, a number of the club’s athletes made the journey to Pietermaritzburg on 22 August to take part in the final cross country event of the season – the KZN cross country championships hosted by Collegians Club.

The Toti numbers were not the greatest, however those who did participate certainly kept the Toti flag flying high.

Results were as follows:

  • Boys U8 (1km): Fourth Ziggy Ndlovu 4.16, seventh Siyanda Dladla 4.45.
  • Boys U9 (2km): Fifth Waldo Greyvenstein 8.16.
  • Girls U9 (2km): Seventh Bianca le Roux 9.43. Boys U10 (2km): Eighth Kyle Pottinger 7.36.
  • Girls U10 (2km): 12th Maya Pretorius 10.10. Boys U12 (3km): Ninth Nathan Haylock 11.46.
  • Girls U12 (3km): Fourth Emma Pretorius 12.47, 25th Miyanka Bester 17.32.
  • Girls U13 (3km): Ninth Elizabeth Barnett 12.09. Girls U14 (4km): First Lee-Ann Blake 14.26.
  • Youth men (6km): 12th Njabulo Khuzwayo 21.58.
  • Youth woman (6km): Second Hlongiwe Zuma 15.19.
  • Junior men (8km): 12th Mukelani Khuzwayo 28.33, 26th Senzo Ngobo 30.39.
  • Senior men (4km): 12th Tebogo Khanye 12.22.
  • Senior men (10km): 29th Siya Mgenge 37.16. Master men 30+: 17th Emond Grobler 28.20.
  • Master men 45+: First Thierry Pletinkx 29.29.
  • Master men 65+: Third Cecil Clarke 29.47.
  • Master women 50+: Seventh Jolanda Broodryk 20.52.

Well done to all these athletes. The club salutes them for their support over the 2015 cross country season and looks forward to seeing them all again during the 2016 season scheduled to kick off with the Parlauf two man relay on 4 March 2016.

These championships were also run as a final selection run for the KZN cross country squad who will represent the province at the South African cross country championships, which will be held in Middelburg on 12 September.
