Holidaymaker hurt as car hits tree

Medics had to climb into the wreckage to stabilise her.

A WOMAN holidaymaker from Pietermaritzburg was seriously injured in an accident along the R102 in Scottburgh on Saturday evening, 8 August.

“Paramedics and their rescue unit found her vehicle had veered off the road and slammed into a tree. The woman was still trapped in the twisted frame of the vehicle. While the rescue officer used the jaws of life to free the seriously wounded woman, medics had to clamber into the wreckage to stabilise her,” said Netcare 911 media liaison, Chris Botha.

Once medics immobilised her on a trauma board, they removed her from the wreckage and transported her to a local hospital.

The incident will be investigated by police.
