Toti wheelchair recipient becomes mobile

The public is welcome to contribute to the campaign.

The Buy a Ride – Give Them Wheels campaign initiated by a Toti motor dealership made a pensioner’s birthday that much more special on Monday, 3 August.

Albert Tramontino (87) was the third wheelchair recipient through the Mark White Nissan Amanzimtoti campaign.

“Albert is currently a Hillcrest resident, but they are looking for a new home in our area,” said marketing manager, Carol Mathews.

“He has severe dementia, heart problems and peripheral neuropathy, which leaves him with very little feeling in his legs.

He is looked after by his daughter Gail, and this wheelchair will give both him and her more mobility, as he only has a walker.

Gail would love to take him on outings and the wheelchair will give her the freedom to do this.

I found out that today is his birthday, so according to Gail this is a very good birthday present for him.”

Albert was also surprised with a birthday cake by the Mark White Nissan staff at the handover.

“We launched this campaign in April,” said carol. “For each vehicle bought in our dealership, a portion goes towards our wheelchair foundation.

A wheelchair is purchased and handed over to anyone in our community who is in need.

We very proud of the fact that ours is the only dealership in South Africa that has this campaign. We are even prouder that one month after launching it, we handed over our first wheelchair.”

Mekayla, a charge of Operation Bobbi Bear, was the campaign’s first recipient, followed by Rene Otto in June.

Mobility changed both these recipients’ lives.

The public is welcome to contribute to the campaign and contact the dealership if they know someone in the community who is in need of a wheelchair.
