Owner, not barking dog, to blame

We understand that the dog will bark at strangers and while playing with children but if it just barks incessantly when no-one is in sight, it is just not acceptable.

EDITOR – I am the supervisor of the block of flats referred to by the owner of the barking dog owner, in the South Coast Sun dated Friday, 3 July.

On numerous occasions, the dog owner has been requested to control his dog but he takes no notice or is verbally abusive.

In the block are doctors, shift workers and security guards who need to sleep during the day, and the barking keeps them awake. We also have elderly folk and one very sick person living here.

What the owner does not say is that they often go away on weekends and leave the dogs alone. On occasions, when they are home and the dogs are outside their flat, the dogs bark for up to an hour at a time and the owners make no effort to stop them. It’s as if they do not hear them, or care if the barking is annoying the neighbours. The dog is not just disturbing one neighbour as there are 49 flats in the building and the majority have complained about the barking.

We understand that the dog will bark at strangers and while playing with children but if it just barks incessantly when no-one is in sight, it is just not acceptable.
