Police nab knife-wielding thief

The victim's description of her assailant led to his arrest.

A JOINT effort between Toti SAPS and other security roleplayers resulted in the arrest of a handbag thief earlier this afternoon, Thursday, 18 June.

“At about 12.20pm, a woman was walking at the corner of Moss Kolnik and Arbour Road, when a man approached her, threatened her with a knife and demanded she hand over her handbag. He grabbed it from her shoulder and ran into nearby bushes,”said Toti SAPS communications officer, Capt Charlene van der Spuy.

The woman’s screams alerted security personnel who contacted the police.

“She gave a good description of her assailant. With the help of members of SAPS, Metro Police, ET Security and Ethekwini Security, the area between the road and railway was cordoned-off. The man was arrested and the woman’s bag was recovered.”

A case of common robbery is being investigated by Toti detectives.
