City launches youth development programmes

To provide support and opportunities for young people.

eTHEKWINI Municipality will launch a series of youth development programmes in June to commemorate sacrifices made by the youth of 1976.

The municipality has established a youth development office as part of a mayoral programme to facilitate the formulation of youth development policies. It aims to provide a wide range of services, opportunities and support for young people.

Under the theme: ‘Changing people’s lives through radical economic transformation and accelerated service delivery’, Mayor James Nxumalo will host various programmes.

A Youth Day commemoration takes place on Sunday, 21 June at People’s Park at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

A Youth in Business Summit will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, 24 and 25 June at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, to encourage a culture of entrepreneurship.

A Mayoral Student Financial Aid Relief Fund, which will offer bursaries to learners who come from disadvantaged backgrounds will be launched on Friday, 26 June.
