Toti golfers unfettered by gusting winds

Thankfully the wind stayed away on Saturday as both the men and women played their monthly medal.

AFTER the beautiful early winter weather experienced the previous week, the cold front arrived bringing the wind with it.

This must have made for some interesting golf on Wednesday and Friday, although looking at the points the wind had no effect on the winners at Amanzimtoti Golf Club.

Some 31 players took part in the Wednesday IPS competition with S Roberts winning on 40 points counting out B Stewart into second and Lucy Pienaar coming third on 39 points.

Only 20 players enjoyed the sundowner competition on Friday with V Govender winning on 22 points and Steve Chetty coming in second on 20 points.

Thankfully the wind stayed away on Saturday as both the men and women played their monthly medal.

Mike Halse achieved nearest the pin on the fourth and N Dupont on the 15th.

Winning the A division on 67 nett was E Crots with S Khader second on 70 nett, Martin Tait won the B division, counting out Tommy McNaughton into second on 67 nett and winning the C division on a very good 65 nett was P Carstens, with E Woods coming second on a count out with 70 nett.

Winning best gross in the A division was S Khader with 71, B division T McNaughton with 77 and C division P Carstens with 83.

Overall best nett was won by P Carstens on 65 nett, followed by Martin Tait second, T McNaughton third, E Crots fourth all on 67 nett, P Tierney was fifth on 69 nett with E Woods sixth, S Khader seventh, C Fryer eighth, G Vosser ninth and N Dupont 10th all on 70 nett.

The women’s silver division was won by Jacqui Porrill who counted out Gerda Heydenrych into second place on 71 nett and winning the bronze division on 71 nett was Sue Daniels with Ina De Boer coming second on 72 nett. Both Estelle Binnekade and Jacqui Porrill managed 30 putts and won the least number of putts on the day, with Sue Daniels and Lass Davis both achieving two-clubs on the fourth.

Jacqui Porrill took part in the Durban region championships held at Royal Durban on Sunday, coming third in the silver division. The combined South Coast team of Umkomaas and Toti consisting of Sabiha Baccaus, Annette Gillette, Michelle van der Merwe and Jacqui Porrill won the team event.
