Snow set to accompany strong sea surge as storm hits

Shark nets have been removed the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board due to the large swells expected.

Prepare for high winds and monstrous swells along the KZN coast from Toti to Ballito Bay from Thursday, 4 June due to a winter cold front setting in across the country this week.

Snow is forecast in KZN from today, which will drop Friday’s temperature to a maximum of only 17 degrees.

Snow is expected in southern Lesotho tonight, and over some parts of the Eastern Cape in and around the Eastern Cape Drakensberg. These falls will continue most of the day, and into the evening, and some scattered flurries may also be experienced in the western high ground of KZN.

Stay away from the sea, as swell height rises steadily from noon today, peaking at 7m at 8am on Friday, 5 June and gradually decreasing to 2.4m at 8am on Sunday, 7 June.

Wind speed likewise increases gradually from noon today to peak at 65kmh at 8pm tonight gradually decreasing to 37kmh at 8pm on Friday, 5 June and dropping off to 11kmh by 8am on Saturday, 6 June.

Be warned that most beaches in KZN will be closed as shark nets have been removed the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board due to the large swells expected.
