Surprise outcomes galore in Winkle BC matches

LAST week saw some exciting Winklespruit Bowling Club competitions being played with surprising outcomes.
In the women’s singles competition, Lynette van Vuuren achieved a win over the veteran, Lulu Bingham.
In the drawn women’s pairs 2-4-2, Trish Farmer and Bessie Vergottini lost against Elaine Critchlow and Sylveigh Ananiadis. In the women’s nominated pairs 2-4-2, the experienced team of Susan Erasmus and Joyce Mackrory clinched a win over Sue Welch and Bessie Vergottini.
On Thursday, 28 May, the monthly men’s 2-4-2 was played. Teams from Toti walked away with all the prizes. Second session winners were Coy Shraewen and team mate, Duncan Wright. Overall winners were Les John and Ken Baker. Keith Berry walked away with the 100 board prize.
The monthly car boot sale on Saturday, 30 May again was a huge success. Sales exceeded all expectations. All attendees enjoyed the boerie rolls made by Sandy Snyman and Trish Farmer. Thanks to Elmarie Young for baking the pancakes and to Brian Farmer, Dries Snyman and Harry van Vuuren for braaiing the boerewors. Both the men’s and women’s league teams achieved mixed results on Saturday, 30 May. It was pleasing to see so many supporters. They were all treated to some excellent bowls played by both men’s teams from the Bluff and WBC.

Tuesday, 9 June at 9am – pensioners league at Wanderers. There is also a 3.30pm committee meeting. Wednesday, 10 June – social bowls at 1.30pm. Thursday, 11 June – men’s nominated trips. Call Mike Joyce on 083-226-3561. Friday, 12 June – social bowls at 2pm. Saturday, 13 June – men’s league competition at Winklespruit BC at 1.30pm against Westville BC.
Birthday wishes go to all who celebrated their birthdays during the week. To all members who are ill, the club wishes them a speedy recovery. Thoughts and prayers are with them.
