Dream of seeing the sea again reached [PHOTOS]
It came together with Damon Beard's Big Favour and Netcare 911.
AN 85-year-old former Toti woman’s dream to visit the beach became a reality with the assistance of East Coast Radio’s Damon Beard’s Big Favour and Netcare 911.
It all came together at Toti main beach on Thursday, 14 May, after Martie van Staden’s daughter, Magda Snowdon had written in to the Big Favour asking for help.
Martie is in frail care and has been bedridden for about nine years after an unsuccessful back operation and has not been outdoors since. Up until a few years ago, Martie had lived in St Winifreds.
All Martie wanted was a chance to see the beach again, something many take for granted.
The Netcare 911 team fetched Martie from the frail care centre where she resides and paramedics carried her on a stretcher down to the beach.
With the ocean breeze on her face and the waves lapping nearby, Martie also enjoyed a cup of tea from a local restaurant before being deftly moved back to her home.
