Hospice charity shop opens in Umzinto

We need the public or businesses to please sponsor some plastic carrying bags.

Khanya Hospice has opened a new charity shop in Umzinto next to KFC, behind the petrol station.

People are invited to go and browse and should anyone want to donate, you can just ‘stop and drop’.

“There are real bargains and all donated articles are sold to sustain the free palliative nursing care that Hospice offers to people with life-threatening diseases and support to their families,” said CEO, Neil McDonald.

“We do not run a feeding scheme as we do not have money to buy food, but we cannot just walk away if a patient has not eaten for the day or there is no food in their house. We thank the public, churches and businesses who donate food to us.

We have volunteers who decant and re-pack the food in smaller quantities to make sure every patient in need can get a food parcel.

Often our nursing staff have to carry this by hand to the patients’ houses, some kilometres from the roads in the rural areas where we provide care.

We need the public or businesses to please sponsor some plastic carrying bags and smaller plastic bags to put samp and beans, sugar, mealie meal and whatever gets donated in.”

Hospice can be contacted on 039-973-1783.
