Steady increase in Winkle BC numbers

The Kwik Spar men’s trips were played on Thursday, 12 March.

MEMBERSHIP numbers at Winklespruit Bowling Club have steadily increased over the last couple of weeks.

Welcome to new members Tom and Charlotte Wilson and Chris Bester.

Despite exceptionally warm days last week, Winklespruit bowlers had a busy week playing in several competitions. On Wednesday, 11 March the Kwik Spar women’s trips were played. Teams from Winklespruit walked away with all the prizes.

Second session winners were Gladys Yelland, Lulu Bingham and Trish Farmer. Overall winners were Elaine Critchlow, Estelle van der Merwe and Bessie Vergottini. Linda McGregor won the mystery prize. Mike Kruger took a chance on the 100 board and won.

The Kwik Spar men’s trips were played on Thursday, 12 March. Winkle’s George Cormack, Aubrey Toy and Mac Mackrory won the second session. Ian Crouch, Duncan Wright and Peter Labuschagne from Toti Bowling Club won the overall prize. Herbert Hoffman won the 100 board prize. Social bowls on Friday, 13 March was enjoyed by all with a delicious dinner afterwards. Non-members are welcome to enjoy an affordable dinner by placing their name on the list at the club or by contacting Norma Raath on 082-394-6340. Friday’s attendance draw is a carry over as Dries Snyman was not present. The whiskey draw was won by Harry van Vuuren who donated it back to the club.

Thanks to Gladys Yelland from DHL who sponsored lots of prizes at the bull’s eye challenge which took place on Saturday, 14 March. It was well supported and players’ skills were put to the test with some scoring high individual points. The top four men players were Mike Kruger, Brian Pasfield, Innocence Ndlovu and Mac Mackrory with 56, 49, 48 and 47 respectively. The top four women were Charlotte Kohl, who also scored the highest overall score of 58, Sue Welsh with 48, Cathy du Plooy with 45 and Elaine Critchlow with 43. The 100 board draw was won by Cathy du Plooy and Maggie Cormack won the wheel of fortune.

Bring your family and enjoy a fun game of bowls. Bowls are available for non-bowlers.

Winklespruit Bowling Club thanks Steve Evenwel for sponsoring the 2015 Steve Evenwel mixed 2-4-2. It is appreciated, considering the current economic climate and how difficult it is to attract good sponsorships.

Birthday wishes go to all who celebrated their birthdays this week. To all those members who are ill, WBC wishes them a speedy recovery. Thoughts and prayers also go to Mac and Yvonne Appleby on the death of their son.
