Teen raped in St Winifreds

The case was remanded to 20 March and the suspect is out on bail.

A fifteen-year-old girl was raped and dropped off in St Winifreds on Friday, 13 February.

 
According to Toti SAPS communition officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy, the victim left her home the previous day to visit a friend and did not return.

 
“She was allegedly found on the side of the road in Whitfield Drive in St Winifreds.

 
She was taken to Kingsway Hospital for a medical examination and it was confirmed that she was a victim of rape.”

 
A case of rape was opened and transferred to Umlazi FCS for further investigation, under Sgt Ntaka.

 
“With further investigation and information being followed up, a suspect was arrested on Wednesday, 18 February by W/O Martin Booyens of the Amanzimtoti Crime Prevention Unit,” said Capt Van Der Spuy.

 
“The suspect was charged and appeared in Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 20 February. The case was remanded to 20 March and the suspect is out on bail.”
