Burglars assault, cut home owner’s hand

The two men dragged John into his house, where they kicked him repeatedly and cut him

An Anna Scheepers Road resident was assaulted and cut on the hand by intruders on Tuesday morning, 17 February.

John de Beer was home alone having something to eat when he saw an intruder on his back veranda.

“I had the house locked up, so as soon as I saw him, I hit the alarm,” he said.

“I let my dogs out and was walking around the house when I was hit from behind. Another man came around in front of me and kicked my dogs.”

The two men, one armed with a knife, dragged John into his house, where they kicked him repeatedly and cut him on the left hand.

“They asked me for money and a cellphone and when I told them I had neither, they took my plasma TV and ran away.”

John believes there was a third intruder and suspects they made their getaway through his back fence.

“The CCPO responded very quickly and I have nothing but praise for them.

This is the seventh break-in I’ve had in 18 months and the third in two weeks. About six months ago, I was held at knifepoint and they got away with a flatscreen TV, jewellery and other goods.

Since then I’ve had four break-ins. This is getting ridiculous.”
