All systems go for tree switch-on

The steel structure, secured to a 4.5-ton concrete foundation, will be lit up by more than one kilometre of lights.

It’s all systems go for the official lighting up ceremony of Toti’s 15-metre high Christmas tree on Saturday, 13 December at 7pm.

An engineering team from RBI Tech, normally associated with the installation and maintenance of cellphone towers, started installation of the structure, which is sponsored by the Durban South Business Forum (DSBF) and RBI Tech, on Tuesday, 9 December.

The steel structure, secured to a 4.5-ton concrete foundation, will be lit up for all to see and enjoy by more than one kilometre of lights.

“The community and holidaymakers are invited to join Miss Ethekwini 2014/15, Lizaan Lazarus for the official ceremony and we encourage all to pack a picnic basket and watch the sunset from the grassed area along the promenade,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.

Provision has been made for a generator in case the area is subject to loadshedding.
