Access restricted to holiday zones in December

Traffic along Beach Road will be regulated by road closure on 16 and 26 December and 1 January.

Following a meeting between beach management, Toti SAPS, Metro Police, the private security sector, organised business and tourism, ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge has released the following information about the festive season management plan.

Traffic along Beach Road will be regulated by road closure on 16 and 26 December and 1 January.

Beach Road will be closed from the Link Road intersection (Rogies Park) down towards Pipeline.

Busses, taxis and cars will be allowed down Link Road off Kingsway to drop off passengers at the intersection near Toti Mall and loop back along Rosslyn Road, where parking will be available in the old CBD parking area along Commercial Road.

The north left-hand lane of Kingsway from Michelle Court to the new Caltex garage at Inyoni Rocks Road will be blocked off to allow for passengers to be dropped off so that they can walk down to the beach areas – the Caltex garage complex will be closed on these days.

Beach Road permits will be issued free of charge to residents, starting from Wednesday, 10 December from 8.30am to 4pm, at the Metro Police kiosk on the corner of Beach and Carlyle roads. Residents and holidaymakers will be required to produce either an utility bill, proof of residence or proof of booking to secure a permit, thereby ensuring that only those who are resident in the area are able to enter with their vehicles.

Body corporates, letting agents, management agents and residents can obtain permits in bulk for holidaymakers with the understanding that the vehicle registration number will be required to ensure that permits are not transferred to third parties.

Mandated law enforcement structures will be conducting joint operations with the private sector to enhance a security footprint at all beaches that will include a local operations centre and logistical support, starting off the N2 highway down to the beach.

Random road blocks and vehicle searches will be conducted.

Law enforcement can extend these measures to additional dates should it be required to better manage and control crowd and traffic flow.
