Toti police gets new visible police head
Major Riette Kitching joined the service straight after school.
A CAREER-police woman and new at Toti SAPS is Maj Riette Kitching who took up the post of commander of visible policing on 31 October.
She was previously based at Mountain Rise SAPS, where she was operational commander of the crime prevention unit and held the rank of captain. Maj Kitching’s duties also included working closely with the local CPF.
Her dad who was also a policeman, inspired her to join the service. She completed her training in Chatsworth in 1993 and was posted to the Alexandra Road police station in Pietermaritzburg, where she remained for nine years.
Maj Kitching moved to Mountain Rise until her recent promotion to Toti. “Once I joined the service, I was eager to learn more and at times, worked in the charge office on my rest days. Every day is different, you learn something new.”
Once out of the office, she enjoys spending time with family, friends and her fiance, a motorbike enthusiast.
