Bull’s eye for Toti shottist

Ruben Kitching's aim is to represent SA at international level.

TOTI’s Ruben Kitching’s shooting skills earned him national colours at the SA Air Rifle Association (SAARA) competition in Roodepoort three weeks ago.

The Glenwood High School grade 8 pupil is justifiably proud of his achievements, as he only took up target shooting at the beginning of the year.

Ruben (14), a former Toti Primary School pupil, represented KZN in the U14A age group category at the competition. Not only did he earn colours, but also scooped the SAARA Springer Trophy for shooting the highest score across all age groups.

“I am very proud of my achievement. I have set goals for myself and was able to reach them in a short space of time, as I have only been shooting air rifle since the beginning of this year. I set
out to be chosen for the KZN team and was selected for the A-team and was subsequently chosen to participate in the SA championships. I have worked hard to achieve this and I am happy with my achievement.”

In competitions earlier in the year, in Newcastle and Klerksdorp, Ruben scooped gold at both events.
“My future goals are to move from the Springer to Sporter division and to be chosen to represent my country, for the British Junior International next year.”
