Rotary club to mark 50 years

Judge Chris Nicholson is the guest of honour.

The Rotary Club of Amanzimtoti will kick off its 50th year celebrations with a special dinner at Amanzimtoti Country Club on Wednesday, 2 July at 7pm, with Judge Chris Nicholson as guest of honour.

Incoming president for the year, Chris Skinner has invited past members and organisations assisted by the Rotary Club to join them for this occasion.

Other events planned for the next several months include the award of Paul Harris international awards from Rotary International to five key members of the community, a golf day at Toti Country Club on 24 September and a week-long youth leadership course for some 40 high school pupils in October.

In the new year, the club also hopes to involve a number of local high schools in the Rotary Daily News team talk competition.

“The Rotary Club has prided itself on its support to the wider community of Amanzimtoti, especially in those areas where the needs are greatest, such as TB, adult literacy and feeding and clothing the needy with help from East Coast Radio,” said Chris.

“On the international front one of its past members, Arthur Reece has donated R450,000 to Rotary International to assist in Polio Plus and other international relief efforts.

We would like to do more, but can do so only with the support of other like-minded individuals from the community.”

If you would like to join the club at the dinner to hear Judge Nicholson, call 082-572-5308.
