God’s ‘Little’ Creatures – the Flower Crab Spider

What eats loads of flies? Yeah spiders!

Hi, today I would like to share some information that I have learned about the Flower Crab Spider:

Spiders, regardless whether they are big or small, venomous or harmless, strike fear in so many people, where in actual fact there is no need to fear them. Spiders loath biting humans and will only do it as a very last resort. The fact is we have more to worry about the common house fly than what we do about spiders. And what eats loads of flies? Yeah spiders!

Today’s spider I have decided to share is the Flower Crab Spider, these small spiders are often found inside flowers, hence their common name. An interesting fact is that these spiders are also able to change their colour depending on the flower that they are sitting in, it takes them between 8 and 24 hours to change colour to match their surroundings. However I have also noticed that they seem to be in full control of their colour changing abilities as I have often seen them in different colours to flowers they are on.

These spiders are completely harmless to humans, but they are excellent predators of flies and bees. They are often seen sitting on a flower with four of their legs stretched out high and wide, they take up this stance and wait for unsuspecting insects to come into their clutches.
