Youth festival coincides with 16 June

Celebrate 20 years of democracy in South Africa and commemorate the Soweto 16 June uprising.

The KwaMakhutha and Surroundings Sports and Cultural Development Initiative (KSSCDI) hosts a youth festival at Sesifikile Sports Grounds from 14 to 16 June.

“The KSSCDI was established to discourage the youth and community at large from the scourge of crime and substance abuse through community-building initiatives like literacy, life orientation, sports and self-empowerment programmes,” said founder, Siyabonga Ntlola.

“At the youth festival, we will also celebrate 20 years of democracy in South Africa and commemorate the Soweto 16 June uprising.”

The youth festival will consist of a soccer, netball and basketball tournament and cultural activities.

“We will also incorporate different stakeholders such as NGOs, NPOs, CBOs, religious groups, the private sector and government institutions to convey the theme of the festival, ‘motivating youth about crime and drug awareness’.
