Dire shortage of police on shift a worry

I happened to be at Toti SAP on Saturday morning and found there were only two members manning a busy office, phone calls, making reports, taking affidavits and so on.

EDITOR – I feel that I need to warn the local Toti fraternity that are not Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) members to give this some serious consideration.
I happened to be at Toti SAP on Saturday morning and found there were only two members manning a busy office, phone calls, making reports, taking affidavits and so on.
I also disturbingly discovered that we only had one SAP vehicle on the streets, and that officer was in fact by himself.
Now it is common knowledge that if there is a serious accident, house breaking or shoplifting incident, that officer would be needed to attend and stand-off for what could sometimes take up to two hours. This means during that period not one SAP vehicle would be available to assist the public in an emergency. I ask you, ‘who are you going to call?’ I know who I’m calling, the CCPO.
I hope you join before it’s too late for you and your family. We had a shooting a week ago and six residential stabbings in St Winifreds in the last few months.
Come on Toti, let’s all sign up and make sure CCPO never gets into this position.

Ed’s note: This letter was forwarded last week to KZN SAPS media liaison for comment on the manpower constraints at Toti SAP, however no comment was received at the time of going to print.

  1. To join the CCPO is not a solution as the CCPO cannot arrest criminals or investigate and prosecute a case. It is imperative that the community support the Sectors where community members work tirelessly and without any remuneration to get our police force back on track, fully armed and fully manned. Please contact us at toticrimeforum@gmail.com to get involved, report all incidents of crime no matter how small and to support the drive to clean up our neighbourhood
