KZN colours for Toti ice skaters

Skaters prepare for the South African Figure Skating Championships.

Toti ice skaters were awarded their KZN colours last week, ahead of competing in the South African Figure Skating Championships at the Grove Ice Rink in Pretoria from 18 to 21 May.

“Jolandri Cilliers of Illovo and Sharne Labuschagne of Winkelspruit will participate in the pre-novice girls section,” said coach, Wendy van der Hammen.

Both are pupils at Kuswag Skool.

Eighteen of KZN's top figure skaters will participate at this year's champs. The annual event will sees teams from Western Province, Central Gauteng and Gauteng North battling it out on ice for top honours in various singles and synchronised skating sections.

Wendy, who is also one of the KZN coaches, and her husband, Marco, who is the team manager, were responsible for bringing the sport to Toti after they opened a figure skating club at the Galleria ice rink in 2012.
