Men jailed for KwaMakhutha murder

Two firearms and live ammunition recovered.

A KwaMakhutha man was among two arrested for murder and house robbery by Umlazi detectives on Sunday, 11 May.

“The detectives, assisted by Durban Flying Squad members, were patrolling the Umlazi area when they followed up on information about the whereabouts of a wanted murder and house robbery suspect in the area,” said Captain Thulani Zwane of the KZN SAPS media centre.

“The members proceeded to the identified house in KwaMakhutha, where they found the 23-year-old man and arrested him for murder and house robbery.”

His room was searched and two firearms, a .38 revolver and a 9mm pistol, were found with 28 live rounds of ammunition. The man was further charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Through investigation, another man was arrested and was also linked to the case, in which Thandokwakhe Paulos Dlamini (54) was murdered on 24 April.

According to police, Dlamini (54) was with his brother in his house at C section informal settlement, when a group of about five men forced their way in at about 2am.

“The gunmen allegedly shot and killed the victim, before they fled the scene on foot with the victim’s firearm.”

The men appeared in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 13 May facing charges of murder, house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to check if it was used during the killing of the victim. More arrests are expected to be made.
