Toti BC hops into Easter tournament fun

At TGIF the meat was won by Peter Shepard, and the wine by Mike Roberts and Tokkie de Kock.

AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club had mixed fortunes in the Oppenheimer mixed pairs this past weekend.

Well done to Coy Schrauwen and Nola Corrigall who won through to the fourth round on Sunday morning. Unfortunately they were defeated in their afternoon game.

Going through to the last 16 are Doreen Salmond and Eric Klopper, and Alec and Nicky Stirzaker, so well done to them in keeping Toti’s hopes alive.

At TGIF the meat was won by Peter Shepard, and the wine by Mike Roberts and Tokkie de Kock. Lynn Joubert won the 100 board. Les John was not present when his number came up in the attendance draw. The next draw will take place on Friday, 25 April because of Good Friday, and will be worth R150.

Several women’s competitions have been played. In the drawn fours semi-final, Doreen Salmond, Val de Kok, Gayle Windrim and Tokkie de Kock beat Marion Crouch, Marilyn Thiart, Di Robinson and Betty Sawyer in a close game. Doreen and team will play Malinki van der Westhuizen and team in the final. There were some emphatic wins in the open singles, with Doreen Salmond beating Pam Chalder-Royle, Robyn Hutton defeating Amanda Ninow and Val de Kock getting the better of Di Robinson. In closer matches, Gayle Windrim beat Maggie Robertson, Michelle Pitchers won over Tokkie de Kock and Jennifer Greenslade took the game from Marilyn Thiart by one shot. In the handicap singles, Jane Coetzee had a good win over Christine Darley, and Nicky Stirzaker had a close win over Jackie Holdrick. In the nominated pairs, Jean Snyman and Nita Meumann beat Amanda Ninow and Linda McGregor; and Julie Sutherland and Jacqui Fouché defeated Marie van de Walt and Annetjie Boag.

In the men’s open singles Lofty van Tonder beat Andrew Pearce. Men’s league results: First division Toti A won 6-1 against Bluff A; second division Toti B won 5-2 against Northlands A; third division Toti C lost 2-5 to Hillary B; fifth division Toti D lost 0-5 to Winklespruit A; sixth division Toti E lost 0-5 to Umhali C; and sixth division Toti F lost 2-3 to Wanderers D.

The teams are on the board for the Easter tournament, with teams of five comprising trips and pairs. First name on the list will be the team captain. Teams can make positional changes after each round. Dress is mufti, with prizes for the best Easter bonnet on Saturday, and the best dressed Easter bunny on Sunday.

The list is on the board for the annual spade day competition on 1 May, Workers Day at 8am for 8.30am. The format is drawn mixed trips with two games of 12 ends. Entrance fee is R15 including tea and sandwiches, and there will be lots of prizes including one for best dressed worker. Jerry Gertzen is sponsoring the day. There will be a bring and braai afterwards with free ‘pap en sous’.
