Thieves land behind bars

TWO men allegedly linked to crimes in Entombeni Drive, Royston and Adams roads in Toti were arrested by CCPO in School Road at about noon on Thursday, 20 February.

Thieves also broke into a complex in Greenside Road two weeks ago and a resident in Old Main Road who had noticed two men carrying a television passed on the information to CCPO’s Leon Joone. One of the men had been previously arrested by the CCPO and a photograph of him was posted on a wall in its office. Members were shown his photo and at about noon on Thursday, 20 February, a Blue Security reaction officer spotted him in School Road, in the company of another man.

Joone and the officer stopped and questioned them. Unhappy with their explanation, Joone took them to Toti detective offices, where they were questioned further and it was established police were looking for them. They were held and fingerprinted. One man’s fingerprints was linked to a housebreaking in Entombeni Drive and the other’s to a similar case which occurred in Eland Road, Toti.

Further investigation led to the recovery of the television, which had been stolen in Greenside Road.

In an unrelated incident, sharp-eyed car guards spotted and chased a would-be car thief in the vicinity of Sweetwaters in Beach Road, Toti at about 8pm on Friday, 21 February.

According to the CCPO, the car guards chased the man who fled into Toti CBD and was seen getting into a blue VW Golf by a Blue Security reaction officer.

The occupants made a quick getaway and were later spotted in Kingsway, behind Queens Terrace in Doonside.

When Blue Security and CCPO members approached the Golf, the occupants opened fire on them and they returned fire. During the exchange of gunfire, the Golf drove off. Police were alerted to the incident.
