Reef C’s win a wake-up call for Moulin Rouge

Trials were held for the seniors team in Melville on Sunday.

SAPPHIRE Coast pool league results for Wednesday, 12 February:

Reef C vs Moulin Rouge C at The Reef: A dismal score for the away team when the first round saw the home team take a clean slate. This was a wake-up call for the Moulin Rouge players, who in the second round managed to take two games and tie the round, only to lose all four frames once again in the third round. They managed a tie in the fourth round. The Moulin players were despondent at this stage, losing their doubles partnership. Well done to Predesh Debipersadh on taking a full house in his singles, followed by Ian Kay winning three of his four singles games to give the team the lead. Final score The Reef 13-5.
Moulin Rouge D vs Sapphire Cove A at Moulin Rouge: Sean Stannard opened the first round against Hennie Coetzee by winning the point. Glen Fryer and Mark Russel took two points for their team and Val Storbeck levelled the score, beating Dean Keppler. After that the away team won the second and fourth round all because Val sank both black and white against Hennie. Glen, Heenie and Mark Russel won three of their four singles games, but Sapphire Cove just couldn’t get their doubles game-plan together, getting beaten by both home team doubles partnership. Final score Sapphire Cove 11-7.
Moulin Rouge B vs Ollies D: A massacre was due to take place when Devesh Debipersadh, Keshen Chami, Castello Naidoo and Mark Naidoo went to prove just how talented they are. Jonathan Childsmith beat Devesh in the opening game, but after that it was downhill for the home team, losing 3-1 again in the second round. Jonathan secured another point for the home team, beating Kershen and George Gormley beat Devesh in the third round. The fourth round and doubles belonged totally to the away side. Well done to Castello and Mark on achieving a full house score. Final score Ollies 15-3.
Boardroom A vs Reef D at The Boardroom:
The Reef D team showed their sheer brilliance in claiming the first and third rounds, taking one full house score after another. Donovan Cock beat Johnny Roets in the second round, allowing his team to breathe a lot easier knowing they wouldn’t be whitewashed, then it was Stefan Bergmann who beat Wayne Mackay to secure the only two points that would be allowed to be taken. Maestro Clint Mooiman and Barry De Beer took a full house score.
Final score Reef 16-2
Warnadoone A vs Ollies B at Warnadoone: Ollies players proved too strong once again although the opening round saw Megan Brett beat Levin Poonan.
In the second round the home team players came out guns blazing with Alex Patterson beating Kervin Joseph and Sheldon Birk beating Ashlin Pillay. Levin and Kerwin ‘slim’ were not on their usual form. Congratulations to Dillon Chetty on his full house win of five out of five games, doubles included. Final score Ollies 10-8.
Silver Dollar B vs Warnadoone D at Silver Dollar: The home team was on a mission, taking three games to one in the first and fourth rounds and a 2-2 score in the third round. Well done to Andries Coetzer on winning all his singles games. He lost his doubles with partner father Raymond Coetzer to Gareth and Warren. This game saw Bennie Benade upping his game, winning three out his four singles.
Both sets of doubles went to the away team, making up the extra two well needed points.
Final score Silver Dollar 11-7.
Trials were held for the seniors team in Melville on Sunday. The turnout was disappointing, due to apparently short notice and other commitments by possible contenders. The first 2014 tournament for KZN will be the women’s match at the end of April.
