Forget the election hype – just vote

In typical electioneering style, politicians from across the spectrum are either defending or decrying the achievements of the last 20 years, it remains the responsibility of each and every citizen to ensure their voice is heard come election day.

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma has scheduled the date of the general election for Wednesday, 7 May, so South Africans are effectively 12 weeks away from casting their votes in the 20th year since democracy dawned on the southernmost tip of the African continent.
In typical electioneering style, politicians from across the spectrum are either defending or decrying the achievements of the last 20 years, it remains the responsibility of each and every citizen to ensure their voice is heard come election day.
South Africans are astute at using their constitutionally-enshrined right to freedom of speech when they complain or call government policies into question – casting your vote in the election is the best way to ensure your voice is officially heard.
Election promises will be ramped up from now onwards, it is up to voters to sort reality from fiction.
Whether you’re pleased as punch with the progress that’s been made, and want the status quo to continue into the next four years, or if you have a major problem with the current administration under President Zuma, the onus is on every citizen to do their duty to their country, and make their mark on 7 May.
