Hospital cake sale aids PRC

KINGSWAY Hospital maternity department commemorated Pregnancy Week by holding a cake sale on Wednesday, 12 February, the proceeds of which will benefit Pregnancy Resource Centre (PRC). Pregnancy week is celebrated from 10 to 16 February.

“As we are a community-based hospital, it is our opportunity to give back,” said unit manager of the maternity ward, Sr Lilly Crown. She got maternity staff, other hospital staff, church groups and former patients to volunteer their time to bake various items for the sale. “All the money raised will go to PRC.” She said the response to her call was amazing and she thanked all volunteers for their time and efforts.

Director of PRC, Connie van Niekerk said the fundraiser is absolutely amazing. “I didn’t realise the extent the hospital would go to help us.” The organisation is involved in a number of programmes such as Undiluted, which impacts the youth; an intervention programme which focuses on counselling and its mother home and mobile units which goes out into rural communities. PRC also has a single mothers’ assist programme, which meets once a month. For more details contact 031-903-7359.
