John and co off to a flying start

The Brian Osman any pairs was played this past Thursday and the two Roberts , Robert Mhlongo and Robbie Carr , emerged victorious on a 4+21.

JOHN Somerville’s side got off to a flying start in the annual twilight two bowl trips at Bluff Bowling Club, when they registered a resounding 30-3 win in the first round of this six week competition and claimed the first of the six session prizes up for grabs.

Robert Mhlongo’s side secured a 13 shot win to sit in second spot and as this competition is run on the ladder system, the above teams will be up against each other this coming Friday at 5pm.

The first session went to Gary Moffat and Mouse Ratcliffe on a 2+10 and the second session was won by Dudley Dorrofield and June Foster on a plus eight, while the board and chicken raffles were won by Mouse and Brian Osman respectively. Tony Hoggins and Alex Fisher snatched the sportsmen’s prize on a 0-23.

On Saturday morning the women’s novice singles commenced at Durban Bowling Club. The club had three entries, two of which went through to the next round as Ronel Morel and Deirdre Koekemoer won their matches. Unfortunately Dawn Spack lost hers. The next round is this coming Saturday morning at 8am.

On Sunday the Lilah Nel pairs was held and the R400 first prize was won by Ben Newton and his partner Carol on a 4+19. The first session was won by Dudley Dorrofield and June Foster on a 2+13 and the second session went to Maree Sadie and Jenny Greef on a 2+9 while the 50/50 board was won by Jay Retief.

The club congratulates Jay Retief, Chrissie Smith and Deirdre Koekemoer on moving up to the main Academy at PNB. Well done to all.

The club had a hectic weekend and therefore the kitchen was busier than normal. Thanks to June and Portia for their hard work and good food.

The club wishes those on the sick list, namely Clarke Meyer, Clinton Williams and Allen Ritchie, full recoveries.

Members are reminded that the list for the men’s and women’s competitions are in the flip boards by the notice board and bowlers have until the end of January to enter or they will miss out on the competitions for 2014.
