* Pupils who attended the South Coast Christian Centre School at Umbogintwini have been placed in government schools in the area as a result of the closure of the religious school by the Department of Education.
The Twini Christian School followed the controversial Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) method of instruction, which has caused much concern among educationists throughout the country.

* Fiona Howie is back in Toti, bubbling with enthusiasm after a year in the Rocky Mountains as a Rotary exchange student.
Although leaving was ‘awful’ and she had to hold up the whole plane because her adopted family were holding on to her so tightly, she has brought with her a host of memories that will last a lifetime.
She talks excitedly of the time she was chased by a bear when out Christmas tree hunting.

* A bomb disposal expert and sniffer dog were called to the Amanzimtoti Commercial Centre on Monday morning after a suspected bomb was reported outside Waterhouse Estates.
The ‘bomb’ was in the form of a small cadac gas cylinder which had been left outside the estate agency. It is not known who left the cylinder in front of the estate agency, or why.
A bomb expert said terrorists had been known to cut the bottoms from the gas cylinders and place limpet mines inside the cylinders.

* It’s not every day a telegram arrives from England, but that’s what happened to Joan and Eric Arthur of Doonside when they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
The telegram read ‘My congratulations go to you both on your diamond wedding anniversary.
I hope that you spend a happy and enjoyable day of celebrations. Elizabeth R.’

* Activities evenings for under 18s could become a reality in the near future, according to local PR consultant, Shelley Smith.
A meeting has been set up this week between the Youth Council and Fifth Factor gym, who have offered their premises for the use of young people in an attempt to keep them off the streets and provide them with a fun place to meet.
