Athletes lace up for Christmas run

The combines junior and senior prize giving at Lords was a huge success.

THIS Sunday Toti Athletics Club will be participating in the Westville Christmas run, which is the last race for 2013.

A big thank you to Cornel, Ron and Des for getting the Christmas sleigh built, painted and decorated.

The run starts at 6am on Sunday, 8 December in Westville, so get there early. The club will be making bacon and egg rolls.

The combined junior and senior prize giving at Lords was a huge success. Thanks to Belinda for organising the décor and bringing the event together. Toti AC has a wealth of running talent, both in the junior and senior, road running and track and field as well as the cross country discipline. This was highlighted at the awards dinner on Saturday.

Suzette Linden walked away with the best female athlete of the year, Thobikile Zama was the most improved female athlete of the year, while Xolani Nocanda walked away with male athlete of the year, cross country and athlete of the year awards. Most improved athlete of the year went to T Mtungwa, while most races run was won by Hannetjie Nell.

The following awards made to the walkers: Most improved walker, J Rees; Toti male walker achiever, D van der Merwe; and woman walker of the year, I Bohmer.

Club person of the year was awarded to Tokkie Poultney for keeping the club’s finances sound for three years and the collection of club subs and distribution of KZN running licences.

Appreciation certificates were also given to those members who went beyond the call of duty in assisting the club this year. They were G Bradley, R Vosloo, R Sayer, C Clarke, T Zama, A Olivier, C Van Antwerp and Des van der Merwe.

Results of the Sani Stagger Mountain run 42.2km: Mark McCalgan position 22 in time 4:12; Raymond Hair position 131 time 5:34.

21km results” Karen Sabrino position second women in a time of 1 hour and 40 minutes.

The club enjoyed the Yellowwood Park 15km Stainbank Cup run and 10km walk.
