RWFL athletes take trio of events in their stride

It is that time of the year when all athletes need to budget for the 2014 license renewal.

RUN Walk For Life (RWFL) Toti’s runners were spoiled with three events this weekend.

On Saturday, the ever-popular Sani Stagger 21km/42km race is a tough event but a few members who attempted it came away with brilliant times, considering that that they were running up and down a pass.

Theirs was a mission well accomplished.

On a lighter note, there was also a ‘zombie run’ on the same day and this was just for fun, where people make themselves up like zombies and take to the streets. The club trusts its members scared a lot of people and had some fun.

Sunday was the BMG 15km Stainbank Cup run and 10km walk. Quite a few RWFL member took on this race and ran some excellent times. Philani Mngidi was the first runner home in 63 minutes, which is a good time considering the terrain they had to run over. The first woman home was Sphiwe Dludla. Well done.

In the 10km walk, the first walkers home were Annemarie Snyman and Antoinette Russouw. Special mention must be made of Dawn Hall who also completed the walk.

All members who competed in these races have made the club proud.

During the week, the weather has been playing up again, depriving athletes of proper training but the Saturday morning run was well supported. Runners from all clubs and the public are welcome to join in.

It is that time of the year when all athletes need to budget for the 2014 license renewal. While ASA has increased its licence fees, RWFL will not and will actually decrease fees. Members will pay only R120 to belong to the club, which includes an ASA number. The rest will pay R250, the same as this year, which also includes the ASA licence number.

The club will be closed from Friday, 13 December until Monday, 6 January 2014 when the first session resumes.

RWFL appreciates the support from various clubs, athletes and walkers who support its walks and runs. For your own safety, wear brightly coloured clothing and reflective wear to increase visibility for motorists.

On Saturday there will be a 10km run and walk at 6am Amanzimtoti High School. The December Illovo 15km Christmas challenge takes place at Westville AC on Sunday, 8 December. For more infomation, call Sharon Schubach on 082-414-1783.

On Sunday, 15 December Verulam has taken over the Calder 10km run and walk at the same venue, Kings Park AC stadium. For more infomation regarding RWFL, call Jan on 082-290-4025.
